10u Caps Finish 2nd at Triple Crown Tournament (NY)

CT CAPITALS START 2009 SEASON STRONG!
April 6, 2009 Congratulations to the CT Capitals 10U Baseball Team for their second place finish at the Triple Crown Sports 2009 Springfrost Tournament in Newburgh, NY the weekend of April 4th and 5th. The kids battled their way through weather delays and a late night on Saturday and played their way to a 3-1 tournament record, before losing to a strong Town Plot Pirates (Waterbury, CT) team in an "All Connecticut" final game.

The Capitals got great defense from the entire team to go along with great pitching from Michael Strong, Ozzie Sindland, Colton Bender, Ryan Nesbit and Marc Zazzaro. The defensive play of the tournament came from Westin Lykins in the form of a game saving catch in left field during the semi-final game against the Bergen County Expos (New Jersey), sending the Capitals to the finals. Tommy Sinland also had a big catch in right field one play before Lykins, and Colton Bender was solid behind the plate for much of the tournament. Bender's defensive play of the tournament came when he threw out a would-be stealer to end the game against the Mid Hudson Tigers, ensuring a trip to the semi finals.

Ozzie Sindland led the Capitals on offense all weekend with big hits throughout the tournament, including a leadoff homerun in the first game of the tournament. He finished the tournament 7 for 14, with 2 singles, two doubles, two triples and one homerun. He reached base 11 of 14 opportunities and scored 10 times. Ian Smith also had a strong tournament at the plate, going 6 for 12, with three walks. He also scored seven runs and reached base 11 of 15 chances. Nesbit, Strong, Bender, Lykins, Matt Cone, Tommy Sindland, Gage Garcia and Brady Williams all came through with big at-bats during the tournament as well.
